The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed a “mix of amusement and pity” on Thursday regarding what it termed the latest attention-seeking remarks from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
It dismissed the ADC's assertions that President Bola “Tinubu’s APC” was attempting to silence the opposition in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
The spokesperson for the state branch of the party, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, stated that Tinubu cannot silence the ADC, as Nigerians have already distanced themselves from the party.
In a signed statement, Oladejo remarked: “Let’s clarify the situation – you cannot silence what Nigerians have already chosen to ignore. The ADC’s statement is akin to a mosquito accusing a lion of roaring too loudly. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC are too engaged in reshaping Nigeria’s future to concern themselves with political spectators who only surface during election seasons to make noise and then disappear after the results are tallied.”
Oladejo further noted that while the APC is focused on establishing stronger foundations, refining strategies, and fostering internal unity for effective governance, the opposition led by the ADC is busy compiling lists of members to expel from “its already dwindling register,” adding that “its executives are now more worried about who might leave rather than who might join.”
He expressed disbelief that a party which only exists on “newspaper pages and WhatsApp groups” claims to feel “under threat.” “From whom, exactly? Nigerians have long moved on from hollow political entities. The ADC’s style of politics lacks a foundation, followers, and relevance – merely a press release and a logo that may soon require a missing person’s announcement,” he stated.
According to Oladejo: “Even more concerning is the peculiar and cynical approach of a party preparing ready-made excuses for its imminent defeat before the elections. The ADC’s strategy appears to involve blaming its opponents in advance while disregarding its own significant flaws, internal turmoil, and complete lack of grassroots engagement. Elections are not lost because your opponents silence you – they are lost because the people do not believe in you.
“Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the APC is too focused on delivering results to be sidetracked by habitual complainers. The only thing being “silenced” in Nigeria today is failure, confusion, and the politics of bitterness that the opposition has mastered.
“The ADC should cease its delusions of persecution and begin to grasp basic political mathematics. You cannot accuse the APC of silencing you when your own silence is self-imposed and deafening – a consequence of irrelevance, disunity, and lack of direction.
“If the ADC dedicated half as much time to organizing as it does to issuing press statements, perhaps Nigerians might actually recall its existence. But for now, its most significant electoral triumph remains a fleeting trend on Twitter before fading into the haze of political obscurity.”
Oladejo concluded that the APC remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate a nation of opportunities, unity, and prosperity under President Tinubu, asserting: “We will not be distracted by political entertainers seeking attention through trivial drama. As for the ADC – stop crying wolf; the nation has moved on.”
