The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its determination to win all elections in the 2027 general elections, despite recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

DAILY POST recalls that last week, the State Governor, Peter Mbah, along with executive council members and other political figures, switched allegiance to the APC.

Speaking to reporters at the PDP state office, Acting State Chairman Steve Oruruo stated that many individuals remain committed to the party, while others have expressed interest in joining to support electoral victories in the state.

Oruruo reassured the citizens of Enugu State that the PDP is very much alive and more determined than ever, dedicated to revitalizing the party despite the governor’s departure.

He mentioned that the party has begun rallying its members to maintain unity and motivation, ensuring that the defection of a few will not lead to the party's downfall.

“This is not the only state where a governor has left the party, yet the party has remained strong. We have advocated for credible conventions and legitimate primaries with quality candidates who can garner support. The PDP in Enugu State is more prepared than ever to collaborate with anyone interested in partnering with the party to ensure its strength,” Oruruo emphasized.

“We want the world to understand that we are unwavering and steadfast in our commitment to remain solid. We are undeterred and aim to reconstruct a party capable of winning elections. We are independent, cannot be overlooked, and are in the process of rebuilding a party from which responsible candidates will emerge,” Oruruo affirmed.

The acting chairman stressed that the PDP has the capacity to recover in the state, despite the defections, which the party does not plan to contest in court.

Oruruo acknowledged that there are minor challenges at the national level but assured that the party has mechanisms in place to address any issues swiftly.
