The Obidient Movement has emphasized that it will exclusively support Peter Obi in his bid to become the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The movement clarified that it will not endorse Obi as a vice-presidential candidate for anyone.
This clarification came in response to reports attributed to its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, stating that the movement would remain in the ADC even if Obi does not secure the party’s presidential nomination.
In a subsequent statement, Tanko referred to these reports as “intentional misrepresentations and malicious propaganda.”
The statement read: “Without hesitation, the ideals, enthusiasm, and collective determination of the Obidient Movement are firmly dedicated to the presidential ambition of Mr. Peter Obi. The Movement is open to aligning with any political party that shares Mr. Obi’s principles and leadership vision.
“It is important to be clear and unambiguous: The Obidient Movement is not organized to support Mr. Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate for anyone. Our backing is solely for his candidacy as President of Nigeria.
“Currently, we are supporting him within the framework of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he competes for its presidential nomination. If the process is transparent, credible, and fair, the Obidient Movement will respect its outcome.
“However, if the process is compromised, the Movement will make a collective, lawful, and democratic decision in line with its core values.”
