The Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Abass, stated that the success of the 2025 Yuletide celebrations in Imo State is attributed to the vigilance of the brigade’s troops.
Abass made this announcement on Saturday in Owerri during the 2025 edition of the West African Social Activities (WASA), organized by the brigade.
The commander emphasized that WASA is crucial for allowing soldiers to relax while remaining vigilant and protective of the Nigerian populace.
He explained that WASA was implemented as part of the Nigerian Army’s regimentation to enhance civil-military cooperation and to showcase Nigeria’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his commitment to peace in Nigeria and for supporting the brigade’s initiatives.
“WASA provides members of the Nigerian Army and their families the opportunity to engage with their civilian counterparts,” he remarked.
“In alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, the brigade has played a crucial role in supporting various missions aimed at addressing the contemporary security challenges facing the nation,” he added.
He also conveyed his thanks to the families and friends of soldiers for their support, which has contributed to the brigade’s success, and urged them to continue their encouragement.
The event showcased dance performances by cultural troupes from different ethnic groups across the country, along with a tasting of various indigenous dishes by the commander.
In addition, there were tug-of-war contests, a bonfire, and awards presented to deserving personnel for their exceptional achievements in 2025.
