Troops from Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have achieved another operational victory by rescuing six individuals who had been kidnapped in the Kajuru/Kujama area of Kaduna State.

Lt.-Col. Shuaib Umar, the acting Deputy Director and Army Public Relations Officer for the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, announced this on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Umar stated that the rescue operation took place on Monday as part of a broader, coordinated series of operations across various fronts within the Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including the outskirts of Kauru border communities.

He explained that these operations were intentionally designed to further restrict the operational freedom of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA), and by extension, the larger Sector 1 OPFY JOA.

“Following a distress alert regarding the activities of violent extremists near the Kasso adjoining hills, troops from Sub-Sector 5, who were already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni area, quickly mobilized to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the troops engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, compelling them to retreat in chaos into the surrounding forest.

“The courageous troops then exploited the area, leading to the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims,” he stated.

Umar noted that the rescued individuals were safely handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families.

He mentioned that the General Officer Commanding and Commander of Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, praised the troops for their efforts.

He urged them to maintain maximum alertness and continue their aggressive approach to prevent criminal elements from operating freely within the Joint Operations Area.
