In a message sent to users, it was stated that support for some older streaming devices will end on December 1.
The email read: “Thank you for being part of the Disney+ community.
“We’re thrilled that you’ve enjoyed everything we provide, from blockbuster movies to brand-new series and exclusive originals.
“Due to the fact that some devices, particularly older smart TVs and streaming devices, may not have the technical capabilities to run the latest Disney+ app or meet the required performance standards for streaming, we must discontinue support for these older devices.
“Beginning December 1, 2025, the Disney+ app will no longer be supported on certain older Apple devices, and this change may impact the devices you currently use to access Disney+.”
Some of the most popular shows on Disney+ include , and .
However, the announcement has caused confusion among Disney+ subscribers, as the email did not specify which Apple devices would be impacted.
To add to the confusion, the message also failed to explain why specific devices would no longer be compatible with the app.
A perplexed subscriber shared the email on Reddit and received numerous messages from others who were equally confused.
The user commented: “I haven’t been able to find a list of devices that will be considered ‘obsolete’ as of yet …
“I never really felt the need to upgrade to newer Apple TVs since they function perfectly for the limited TV we watch on them.
“Has anyone else received this? If so, what devices are you currently using that might be deemed older?”
One individual responded: “How difficult would it be for them to include version information in this email???”
“I received this email this morning and am now searching for more information.”
A second commenter said: “Great reason to cancel.”
Another suggested: “If you have an Apple TV, consider using device mirroring.”
“Device mirroring” allows users to connect another Apple device – such as an iPhone or iPad – to their TV via a lightning cable, enabling them to stream their favorite shows this way.

SWITCH TO FREE STREAMING

If you’re weary of paying for multiple streaming services, there are an increasing number of free alternatives available.
While many of these options have featured obscure content, larger names like Sky have joined in recent years, offering some quality entertainment, primarily from their archives.
In addition to UKTV, Sony and 5 are among the other platforms getting involved.
If you haven’t tried it yet, give Pluto TV a chance; it’s accessible on nearly all devices, including Fire TV Sticks.
On Pluto TV, you can find channels from MTV, featuring shows like Catfish and Geordie Shore.
Some of the classic offerings are real treasures too – I recently found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Which devices will no longer support Disney+?
The specific devices that will no longer support Disney+ have not been disclosed in the email. Users are encouraged to check for updates from Disney+ regarding compatibility.
What should I do if my device is affected?
If your device is affected, consider upgrading to a newer model or using device mirroring with another Apple device to continue streaming Disney+ content.
