BRAZILIAN icon Ronaldinho is set to make a shock appearance at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.

The 46-year-old Ballon d’Or winner, who fired his country to the 2002 World Cup, is heading to Wearside for a special legends fixture on Monday 25 May.

The Ex- and magician will headline a & Friends side against a UK Icons team led by former striker .

A host of former players have already been confirmed to feature, including fellow World Cup winner Kleberson, goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, former full-backs Fabio and Rafael, as well as Fernando and Anderson.

Fellow ex-Sunderland forward Djibril Cisse is also set to pull on his boots.

Tickets are now on sale via Sunderland’s official ticketing website, with adult prices starting at £25 and concessions available from £20.

The exhibition takes place just one day after Regis Le Bris’s side conclude their Premier League campaign at home to .

Upon the match’s announcement, the Black Cats’ chief business officer David Bruce admitted his delight at getting the game on.

Bruce said: “It is an absolute privilege to host this game and welcome one of the most iconic legends of the sport.

“The Stadium of Light is known for hosting big occasions and this event with Ronaldinho is no different.

On Ronaldinho’s eagerness to visit Wearside, event chief Marcel Nalyan said: “It had been a long time since he last visited the UK, and he had longed for the chance to play there once more.

“When the opportunity with Sunderland arose, he said immediately: ‘Let’s do it!’

“From the very beginning, he loved everything about the fans on Wearside, the stadium, and all that comes with it.”
