The Nigeria Police Force has halted the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy due to an interim court order that restrains the action until a substantive suit is resolved.

It is important to note that the Police had previously announced on December 15, 2025, their intention to recommence enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit starting January 2, 2026, as part of efforts to improve public safety and internal security.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, the Force indicated that it received an interim court order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, which prevents it from proceeding with the enforcement until the case is heard and decided, or the order is vacated.

The release, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, mentioned that the Nigeria Police Force has acknowledged the suit, raised preliminary objections, and formally requested the vacation of the interim order.

“The court has adjourned the case to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings,” the statement noted.

In adherence to the ongoing court order and in respect of constitutional obligations and judicial authority, the Police announced that the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy is on hold nationwide until the court reaches a verdict.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized the Force’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law while fulfilling its primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

The Police reassured the public that they will continue to rely on lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges throughout the country and will provide further updates as developments occur following the court's decision.

The Force encouraged citizens to remain calm, stating that any updates regarding the situation will be communicated in the best interest of public order and national security.
