The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has announced an updated timeline for the 2026 Local Government Elections, which are scheduled to take place on September 1, 2026.

The Chairman of PLASIEC, Plangji Cishak, made this announcement while addressing journalists at the Commission’s headquarters in Jos, the state capital, on Friday.

He highlighted that these adjustments are based on “legal, administrative, and operational considerations,” aimed at facilitating a credible and inclusive electoral process.

“In alignment with our statutory responsibilities and core values of transparency, excellence, and stakeholder inclusion, it has become necessary to hold this briefing to formally review critical activities in preparation for the elections,” Cishak remarked.

He noted that “Party primaries will take place from January 12 to January 30, 2026.”

“The collection and submission of nomination forms will occur between February 2 and March 2, 2026.”

Cishak also mentioned that the publication of candidates’ details is set for March 7, 2026, while the screening and verification of candidates will occur from March 11 to March 16, 2026.

Additional activities include the publication of the final list of candidates on March 30, 2026, with campaigns commencing on March 31 and concluding on August 30, 2026.

Cishak urged stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, ensuring that the public is accurately informed.
