A SECOND weight loss pill that works like a fat jab has been approved for UK patients.

One-a-day tablet orforglipron today got the green light from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

It will be named Foundayo and is made by Eli Lilly and Company, the manufacturer of blockbuster injection Mounjaro.

Mounjaro set an last year when doctors in England prescribed nearly £600million worth of the jabs.

Experts reckon the pill will be just as popular as it will likely be cheaper and easier to take.

MHRA approval is required before a drug can be used in the UK and it comes after the rival was signed off in June.

Julian Beach, a director at the MHRA, said: “We are pleased to be the first regulator in Europe to authorise this tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes.

“This is a prescription-only medication and the MHRA will keep the safety and effectiveness of orforglipron under close review.”
