MOVING to another country is always a significant choice, but for this family, it made more sense to pack their belongings and move to sunny Zimbabwe rather than stay in the UK.

Nat and her family chose to relocate after their lives became dominated by constant work.

With seemingly endless hours spent on work, household chores, errands, and the rising cost of living, life in the UK no longer felt viable for Nat and her family.

In a viral TikTok video, Nat, who goes by @ naturallyfakemum , shared that she was also missing out on precious moments with her children due to her hectic lifestyle.

“It was a stressful way of living,” the mother explained, detailing how she would drop her children off at school before heading to the bakery where she worked, only to pick them up again after school was over.

Eventually, Nat and her husband, who was raised in Zimbabwe, started discussing the possibility of moving.

“He always said he had the best childhood [in Zimbabwe], playing outside every day, visiting the lake, and being very sociable,” Nat recounted.

Moreover, all of her husband’s family still lived in Zimbabwe, making the decision to move feel right.

This prompted Nat to sell her bakery business, and the family said goodbye to what they thought would be their permanent home.

One and a half years later, Nat reported that her family has fully adjusted to their new life in Zimbabwe.

Not only is the weather better, but both Nat and her husband enjoy more free time.

The mother even praised the quality of food in Zimbabwe compared to the UK, noting that it is much fresher.

As for her children, she mentioned they are thriving in school and spending more time outdoors, just as she always hoped they would.

After sharing her motivations for relocating, fellow TikTok users had mixed reactions.

One user commented, “I don’t understand, isn’t the UK better than Zimbabwe? Why is everyone so eager to move to the UK?”

In contrast, another remarked, “Food in Zimbabwe is fresh and organic, the schools are among the best available, and they uphold traditional educational values.”

“You can be assured that your children are safe and free from bullying or disciplinary issues. The country is also safe and welcoming,” they added.

A third user agreed, stating, “Zimbabwe is beautiful; the lifestyle is unparalleled.”

“I grew up in Zimbabwe and had the best childhood as well,” someone else shared.

The Decision to Move

Brexit means that British citizens now need to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries have less stringent residency restrictions than others, here’s what you should do at home before relocating:

  • Inform HMRC about your upcoming move.
  • Notify your local authority and provide a forwarding address.
  • Contact your mortgage and utility providers, as well as your bank, before departing.
  • If you have paid sufficient UK national insurance contributions, you may qualify for a state pension abroad – reach out to the International Pension Centre .
  • You can register for the Royal Mail’s redirection service .
  • If you have outstanding student loans, get in touch with the Student Loans Centre .
  • If you have children, provide adequate notice to childcare providers and schools.
