The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office as of Friday.
The APC also opposed the acceptance of Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the party.
This endorsement was announced during a stakeholders meeting in Jos, which was attended by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the party leader in the state, former governor Senator Simon Bako Lalong.
Other attendees included former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, former Governor Joshua Dariye, former Minister Dame Pauline Tallen, MD/CEO of the North Central Development Commission Dr. Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, along with current and former members of the state and National Assembly, and hundreds of party supporters.
During the meeting, former Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Barr. Festus Fuanter, moved a motion stating, “I propose we endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole candidate for the party in 2027.”
The motion was seconded by the state APC Woman Leader, Alice Dimlong.
The stakeholders overwhelmingly supported the motion.
Fuanter also introduced another motion, stating, “I propose we reject the acceptance of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the APC.”
This motion was also unanimously approved by the stakeholders.
In his remarks, Senator Lalong welcomed the party's decision and expressed that the President deserves a second term for his efforts in improving the lives of Nigerians and for including Plateau State in his government, starting from his appointment of Lalong as the Director General of his campaign in 2023.
Lalong stated, “The appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewe as APC National Chairman is a significant blessing for Plateau State, opening avenues for development and indicating that good things will continue to come to the people of Plateau through the APC.
“The Plateau APC is united, as all differences have been resolved, and all structures have come together for the advancement of the state and the nation as a whole.
“Members who previously left our party have returned, including those who departed from other political parties.”
National Chairman Yilwatda also expressed gratitude to members for endorsing President Tinubu for a second term, noting that it is well-deserved due to his efforts in reviving the nation's economy and guiding it towards progress.
He mentioned that the President values the state and the APC family greatly, especially due to the warm welcome he received during his recent visit for his mother's funeral.
Yilwatda also thanked party members for their support and goodwill during the passing and burial of his mother.
According to him, the party is growing stronger every day and attracting new members from various political parties, assuring that newcomers will receive all privileges and rights.
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, emphasized the importance of unity among members and cautioned against gossip and other divisive behaviors that can lead to confusion and setbacks.
Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Daniel Naanlong Gapyil, described the gathering as uplifting, especially the commitment to unite and eliminate any barriers to progress.
Former Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, praised the spirit of unity, stating that the party is becoming stronger.
