‘I lost my mind’ admits Kelly Osbourne as she lifts lid on meltdown she suffered after dad Ozzy’s death

WALKING on stage hand in hand with mum Sharon at the Brits to accept her late dad Ozzy’s lifetime achievement award, Kelly Osbourne stood tall in the face of grief.

But what came next was a barrage of ­criticism and hate from cruel online trolls who accused her of “taking too far”.

Now, seven months later, has finally addressed the concern over her appearance at the event — and while the TV personality has long denied turning to , she has blamed their widespread use for giving her body issues.

Kelly, 41, said: “All of the fat jabs came in. And it was like, ‘She’s fat and she’s this, she’s that, she dresses weird’.

“I went from being so comfortable being me and thinking there was nothing wrong with me to having an incredible amount of insecurity.”

After that evening at the music awards ceremony in Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, who were commenting on her body.

But the ordeal ended up being the wake-up call that she now acknowledges she needed.

Kelly admitted: “I didn’t know what I looked like. I couldn’t see it. I was so unwell, I couldn’t see it.

“Then I saw those pictures and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is not good. This is not good’.

“But what I was suffering from was and grief, and I got assassinated over something that should have been about my dad and his legacy. And people couldn’t see past that.

“All they wanted to do was rip me to shreds. And it also made me so sad for the state of this world, that people could be so cruel. But it did allow me to see what they saw.

“It was a wake-up call. But there was so much more going on in my life that I can’t speak about.”

At the Brits, Kelly was still reeling from and the , who she officially split with a few weeks after the awards bash.

Now, Kelly has confessed sent her into a spiral which made her struggle to get by day to day — and she was so lost in grief that she stopped eating.

Speaking to relationship expert Paul C Brunson on his We Need To Talk podcast, Kelly explained: “Losing my father, it has taught me that there is such an honour in grief because I am capable of loving someone so much that I lost my mind.

“I was a shell of myself. I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t do anything. I was just empty, broken in every way a human being could ­possibly be broken and completely unable to even take care of myself.

“I was at ground zero. I started drinking again. I lost my mind.

“But I can honestly say today, I’m eight months sober. I have the most incredible people around me.”

Ozzy’s health was deteriorating before he passed away.

He had been diagnosed with and was suffering from severe spinal pain due to botched 2019 surgery following a fall at home.

The frontman managed to perform one final concert, in his home town of Birmingham in July 2025, and died just 17 days later. Now, Kelly believes Ozzy was aware he was close to death.

She said: “My dad knew he was going out. He knew he went out exactly the way he wanted to.

“He was prepping me along the way. Everything he told me would happen, has happened.

“Everything he warned me of, every person he told me to stay away from — everything. And I was just like, wow, like you really didn’t miss a beat, did you?

“My mum allowed him to die the happiest you’ve ever seen him.

“All he wanted before leaving this planet was one last show one more time — to be able to let his fans know how grateful he was for the life they allowed him to have and how much he loved them and to say goodbye.”

The pair had a close relationship, even scoring a No1 together in 2003 when they duetted on a cover of the Black Sabbath song Changes.

And they shared far more than that — with Kelly believing she inherited her propensity for drink and from former addict Ozzy.

Kelly, who has three-year-old son Sidney from her relationship with ex-fiancé Sid, said: “I’m the female version of him, personality-wise.

“I got all his good things, I got all his bad things, too.

“I always said, ‘I’m never going to drink, I don’t need that, I’m fine without it’. And I ended up exactly the same as my dad.

“I do believe it to be a genetic disorder. It’s something I even worry about with my son. I never want him to go through what I went through.”

Kelly first quit drink and drugs in 2017 and, after a relapse when her dad died, is now sober. But as the daughter of a wild-living rock god, it was hard to see how things could have gone a different way.

As a young teenager, she remembers living in the Beverly Hills Hotel in LA while their house was renovated, and ended up on crazy nights out with other world-famous rockers.

Speaking about her experiences with her brother Jack, Kelly recalled: “I was 13 years old walking to Sunset Strip and going to The Roxy.

“Because we’d been on tour with so many bands throughout our lives, whenever they were in town or if they were based in LA, they looked after us.

Incubus got to know me and my brother so well that they’d be like, ‘Yeah, we got them, — we’ll take them out tonight’. And that kind of developed into me getting to know the whole club scene in LA.

“I’d get in anywhere, I’d make my own drinks behind the bar.”

But a few years later, her world became even more bizarre when her family’s chaotic fly-on-the-wall reality show arrived on .

She said: “The night before The Osbournes launched, me, my mum and brother went for a walk on Venice Beach. We ooked at each other and mum said, ‘Have we just made the biggest mistake of our lives?’.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know’. Because we weren’t normal — we were just being ourselves. All of a sudden the judgment came in, and the very next day there were paparazzi outside my house — people in cars waiting to follow me.

“I thought I was being stalked. I went to bed one night and woke up the next day literally the most famous 16-year-old in the world, and I couldn’t figure out why. It didn’t make sense.”

The raucous show followed Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and her younger brother Jack.

But her older sister, , decided not to take part — and there has been a wedge between them ever since.

Kelly said: “She was just in her own world doing her own thing.

“And I do, to a certain extent if I’m honest, feel as though she was embarrassed of us. The family.

“We’re very different. Everything I am, she’s not. Everything she is, I’m not. It’s like you couldn’t be more polar ­opposite. It’s one of the hardest things in my life that I never got a big sister.

“And I had to learn how to do ­certain things that a big sister should have taught you, on my own. I do have a resentment there. I’ll have that forever.”

As for the prospect of a reconciliation,

After a year from hell, Kelly is now trying to rebuild her life in the UK, having relocated here with her young son.

Speaking optimistically about her future, she said: “There is so much that I plan on doing. There is so much that I have to offer.

“There is so much work yet to be done, and it hasn’t even begun.”

And despite the trials and tribulations caused by her family’s reality show, she is eyeing up a return to the small screen. She added: “I’m going to do a new reality show in the UK. But it will be worldwide.”

There’s plenty more fight in her yet.
