The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command says it has opened a discreet investigation into the tragic death of Somtochukwu ‘Sommie’ Maduagwu, a presenter and producer with Arise Television.

Maduagwu lost her life after armed robbers stormed her apartment in the Kamtape area of Abuja on Monday.

According to witnesses, the journalist reportedly jumped from her fourth-floor apartment while attempting to escape the assailants.

She and the building’s security guard, who also sustained injuries during the incident, were rushed to the hospital but both were later confirmed dead.

In a statement on Tuesday, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, had directed investigators to track down the culprits behind the attack.

Condemning the killing as “a senseless and cruel act,” Adewale expressed condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the late journalist.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and has deployed intelligence and operational teams to pursue those responsible,” Adeh said.

She added that Adewale assured residents of the police command’s dedication to public safety and encouraged members of the public to provide timely information that could aid the investigation.

The police chief also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately, stressing that quick action could prevent criminals from carrying out violent attacks.
