Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, has confirmed that Alexander Isak will not face Liverpool in their Premier League clash on Monday night.

Isak has not played for the Magpies since the end of last season, as he has effectively gone on strike in a bid to force a move to the champions.

Ahead of the game at St James, Howe expressed optimism that the 25-year-old will still be part of his squad at the end of this summer.

“He’s contracted to us. He’s our player… and yes, 100% I want him back in a Newcastle shirt,” he said

“My wish is that he would be playing on Monday.

“He won’t be, that’s regrettable. But I still wait for him.”

Liverpool have already seen one huge bid for Isak rejected by Newcastle.
