During the trophy ceremony, Zheng took the mic for a singsong.

The charismatic star belted out “Light of Dreams” – a song from Chinese TV series Shenbing Kids – before laughing and bowing to the adoring crowd.

Fans loved Zheng’s confident performance, with one writing on X: “Zheng with the karaoke. On court maybe she isn’t the most friendly but I feel like she’s alot of fun off court”.

Another added: “Win the China Open, then do karaoke for the home crowd. Honestly the perfect Sunday.”

Reflecting on her triumph, Zheng said: “The feeling was incredible. To win here in Beijing in front of my home crowd is one of my dreams.

“I’ve been through a very, very tough year.”

This was not the first time that Zheng has sang on court.

She also performed karaoke after winning a tournament in Zhengzhou three years ago.

Zheng’s title in Beijing was the sixth of her career.

It was her biggest success on the WTA Tour, only topped by the gold medal she earned at Roland Garros during the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Zheng previously reached No4 in the world, but has suffered badly with elbow injuries over the last 18 months.

Earlier this season she exited the top 150 following a string of difficult results and a period of inactivity due to injury.

She returned to form at the US Open last month, coming through qualifying to reach the quarter-finals – beating and Madison Keys along the way.

Zheng’s title win in Beijing takes her back to the cusp of the top 20 in the WTA rankings.
