The figures, supplied by the CSJ think- tank, show a claimant signed off for ill-health can pick up around £25,000 a year, the equivalent of take-home pay from a £30,000 pre-tax salary.

That outstrips the earnings of officers, cleaners, nursing assistants and the jobs of millions of others who get up with the alarm clock and graft for a living.

Is it any wonder that since Covid 1,000 people are being signed off on disability every working day?

Or that more and more jobs are having to be filled by workers from abroad as Brits languish on benefits?

The results are absolutely damning for Starmer and his chaotic Chancellor .

They have unleashed a welfare tsunami which will hit £406billion a year by 2030.

It has already resulted in 4.17million people on Universal Credit with no requirement even to look for work.

That is disastrous for , the economy and the individuals on welfare, many of whom will never work again.

The grotesque welfare bill also prevents us freeing up vital spending on defence, yet Sir Keir buries his head in the sand.

This madness will cost Britain dear, but the PM is too spineless to tackle it.
