Some leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Abia State chapter, have suspended the party’s State Chairman, Mr. Don Norman Obinna, over allegations of misconduct and disregard for party principles.

The development was announced during a harmonization meeting of different factions of the party held on Friday at Aba, where the participants suspended Obinna pending investigation into petitions against him.

Speaking to journalists on Friday after the meeting, Interim Chairman of the party, Okoroafor Kanu, alleged that Obinna’s leadership style alienated party members.

According to Kanu, the decision to suspend Obinna was reached after deliberation and a motion was passed to set up a disciplinary committee, which he now heads, to investigate the allegations.

However, the suspension has been strongly challenged by some members of the part, including Rev. Blessed Amalambu, ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia North constituency.

Amalambu, who dismissed the process that was used in the suspension as unconstitutional and lacking in credibility, insisted that the panel that suspended the ADC Chairman lacked legal backing.

Another stalwart of the party, who spoke under anonymity, said any plan by external forces to push out original ADC members won’t succeed.

Meanwhile, Mr Don Norman Obinna during a recent meeting in Umuahia, said he remained the authentic Chairman of ADC in Abia.
