"2027: Lagos APC Claims Opposition is Desperate for Power Without Accountability"

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) noted on Monday that the opposition is increasingly desperate and seeks power without accountability.

Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the spokesperson for APC in Lagos State, stated that the opposition has turned to demanding political immunity from scrutiny and accountability due to a lack of ideas.

In a signed statement, Oladejo criticized those who are condemning the government for the arrest of certain opposition figures accused of corruption during their time in office.

Oladejo remarked that the party has observed with both amusement and concern the escalating desperation within the opposition as Nigeria steadily counts down to the 2027 general elections.

“Deprived of ideas, credibility, and public trust, the opposition has resorted to an audacious and disgraceful demand for political immunity from scrutiny, accountability, and consequences,” he said.

“Unable to defend their records in office or present a coherent alternative vision for Nigeria, opposition figures have opted to cry persecution whenever faced with facts, questioned by public opinion, or held to the same standards they once used against others.”

“They desire power without responsibility, ambition without accountability, and relevance without performance. That era is long behind us.”

“The opposition's desperation has reached a level where it is clear they are not only fearful of accountability but also of their own shadows. Haunted by their past actions and public records, they now seek political cover rather than public validation. This fear-driven stance explains the ongoing attempts to coerce the government into granting an illegal and immoral immunity that has no place in a constitutional democracy.”

Oladejo emphasized to the opposition that the “government will neither be blackmailed nor cornered into providing protection to political actors who have not earned the trust of Nigerians. Immunity is not a campaign strategy, and narratives of persecution will not erase documented failures.”
