The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has accused certain members who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of intending to undermine the PDP in the state.
The State Chairman of PDP, Venatius Ikem, made this claim while speaking to reporters in Calabar on Monday, emphasizing that these individuals were secretly plotting to disrupt the PDP's operations in the state.
Ikem alleged that some former PDP members who switched to the ADC were now masquerading as party stakeholders in an effort to infiltrate and create confusion within the PDP.
He characterized the situation as a calculated act of sabotage aimed at diminishing the unity and organizational strength of the PDP in preparation for upcoming elections.
“It is unfortunate and embarrassing to witness conflicting statements emerging from our national headquarters.
“Rather than penalizing those who have openly declared allegiance to the ADC, certain individuals are rewarding them with caretaker committee positions while casting doubt on the legitimacy of our peaceful and transparent state congress,” he stated.
According to him, the recently concluded congress in Cross River was conducted in full accordance with the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) and in line with the guidelines set by the National Working Committee (NWC).
He further mentioned that the newly elected state executive has already been inaugurated and has begun fulfilling its responsibilities.
