She scolded MP colleagues, such as , who have been agitating to rejoin the EU ten years on.

She told The Sun: “I don’t think that is the right approach.”

She added: “We had those debates, it was done. We had a referendum. We had a whole long debate for several years afterwards.

“Now, from outside of the EU, we can have good relationships, and we should have good relationships.”

PM Sir has ruled out rejoining but is seeking closer ties.

Speaking during her visit to India, Ms Cooper said she would try to strengthen cooperation with as a continent to repel Russian aggression.

She said: “Some people think we shouldn’t talk to our European neighbours, other people think we should be turning back the clock. We can’t turn back the clock.

“We should be moving forward in new partnerships, working constructively, on issues from outside the EU.”

YVETTE Cooper has blamed stubborn Whitehall HR for handing Peter Mandelson a £75,000 payout after he was sacked in disgrace.
