A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ijebu North Constituency I, Rasheed Kashamu, has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced his defection on Monday during a session of the House, stating that irreconcilable differences and divisions have fragmented the opposition party both at the state and national levels.

While reading his resignation letter at plenary, the Speaker of the House, Oludaisi Elemide, confirmed that the lawmaker had formally informed the House of his departure from the PDP and his decision to join the APC, citing national factional disputes and leadership struggles within the state as the reasons for his move.

The lawmaker expressed that his decision aligns with his commitment to collaborate with other progressives in the state to support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s initiatives under the ISEYA Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

“After evaluating the current situation within the PDP at the national level, characterized by factions and unresolved leadership crises, and as someone who has benefitted from the pro-people legacy and support of my constituents in Ijebu North I State Constituency, I have reached an agreement with my leaders and numerous supporters that we should transition en masse into the APC.

“Therefore, to bring our successful formula from Ijebu North I into the APC and to fully support Mr. Governor’s ISEYA Agenda, along with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, my supporters and I are now members of the APC.

“I have officially joined the APC at my ward in Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, and I am prepared to contribute my share to further strengthen the ruling party and promote good governance throughout the state,” he stated.

He informed the House that he had joined the APC at his Oke Sopen Ward in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area, along with his supporters from across Ijebu North.
