The Federal Government has responded to the rising political debates surrounding the 2027 general elections and the emergence of new political movements, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on governance and delivering on his reform agenda.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation on Monday, the government made it clear that while it respects Nigerians’ constitutional freedoms of association and expression, it would not allow political speculation or opposition regrouping to derail its work.
“Even as we affirm the right of all Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of association and of speech,”; the statement reads, “it is also important to underscore that President Tinubu’s administration will not be sidetracked by politicking or political distractions.”;
The comment comes amid growing public interest in what appears to be the early formation of a new political coalition led by figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Information Ministry described the current media buzz as “understandable”; but insisted that the administration is more concerned with keeping the economy on track.
“Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with a bold and transformative mandate, anchored in the Renewed Hope agenda,”; it said, noting that the first two years of the administration have already produced visible results.
According to the statement, crude oil theft has dropped significantly, investor confidence is returning, inflation pressures are easing, and the naira is becoming more stable. Government initiatives, such as student loans, access to consumer credit, and the conversion to CNG vehicles, are already reaching millions of Nigerians.
The statement said only recently, the Tinubu-led administration commissioned “the single largest mechanisation drive ever undertaken in Nigeria’s history,”; under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, aimed at ensuring long-term food security.
Idris pointed to the recent signing of four tax reform bills as further proof of Tinubu’s unwavering focus.
“These reforms mark one of the most ambitious fiscal overhauls in Nigeria’s history,”; the statement noted, with implementation slated to begin in 2026.
“Not surprisingly, emerging coalitions and opposition political groupings do not want a sustained focus on the progress Nigeria is making.”;
The Federal Government insisted that such distractions would not work, reaffirming that “the Tinubu administration remains undeterred, focused, and committed to building a more prosperous Nigeria for all.”;
