Troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms and ammunition during a clearance operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This was disclosed in a post on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X.
According to the Makama, the operation was launched in the early hours of Friday, following credible intelligence on the suspect’s location in Hura village.
Troops moved in and apprehended the suspect without resistance.
A follow-up raid on the suspect’s hideout led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, a cash sum of â¦2,500, and items suspected to be charms.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of a criminal syndicate linked to the killing of a herder and the rustling of 1,250 cows in Tomborong village, Riyom LGA, on May 27.
“The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators on the identities and locations of other members of the syndicate and their cache of weapons,”; a military source told Makama.
Troops have intensified efforts to track and apprehend the remaining members of the group responsible for the criminal activities in the area.
