The Sokoto State Police Command has unveiled a comprehensive security strategy to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors during the Eid-al-kabir festivities.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ahmed Musa, convened a high-level security meeting with Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) at the Command Headquarters.

A statement released on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, explained that the session focused on finalizing deployment strategies and reinforcing inter-agency collaboration ahead of the Sallah festivities.

The commissioner, according to the statement, emphasized the police force’s readiness to ensure peace and order throughout the celebration period.

Among the key strategies discussed according to the statement were, “the massive deployment of police personnel to critical locations including Eid prayer grounds, recreation centres, major markets, and entry/exit points across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state. CP Musa also directed intensified foot and vehicular patrols, along with intelligence-driven surveillance operations to deter criminal elements”;.

The command is also implementing detailed plans for crowd control and traffic management, aiming to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement around high-traffic areas.

Rufai also revealed that the CP further highlighted collaborative efforts with other security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community vigilantes as part of a unified front for public safety.

He told the public to expect a highly visible police presence, saying that the Eid al-Kabir celebration requires utmost dedication and vigilance.

According to him, the focus is on crime prevention, effective crowd management, and rapid response to any emerging situations.

The police commissioner also raised concerns over the circulation of fake currency during the Sallah period, particularly targeting cattle markets. He urged DPOs to sensitize traders within their jurisdictions and advised livestock dealers to be extra vigilant in their financial transactions.

CP Musa called on the public to remain security conscious and to cooperate fully with security operatives and encouraged the timely reporting of suspicious activities through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032345167, 08032861946.

The Sokoto State Police Command while wishing Muslims a successful celebration, reassures all Muslim faithful and residents of its firm commitment to ensuring a peaceful and joyous Eid celebration.
