A CEO has recounted the “horrific” home invasion in which he and his two daughters were shot while his wife was bludgeoned with a hammer.
Armed thugs in ski masks and hoodies allegedly of David Morton in Toronto on Friday, said.
The terrifying break-in unfolded at around 3.40 am in Hyde Park Circle – a glitzy neighborhood which is also home to superstar rapper Drake.
Gun-wielding suspects shot Morton, 75, and one daughter in the leg and hit the other daughter under the arm, according to the Toronto Sun .
His wife Doriana Zohil, 64, was struck with a hammer.
Now the real-estate tycoon has opened up about the “horrific” ordeal.
In a statement to the NY Post , he said: “It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home.
“No family should ever have to experience this. People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.”
He and his two daughters Maggie and Christina, both in their 20s, were shot while trying to fight off the violent intruders.
All four family members were raced to hospital with serious injuries following the raid on their home.
Two of the victims suffered “life-altering injuries” while the other two had non-life-threatening wounds, said Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith.
The men forced entry into the home before climbing up to the second floor and demanding valuables.
Two suspects were armed with handguns while a third carried a hammer, Smith said in a press conference.
“The suspects fired their guns multiple times”, she said, adding that it was not clear if they escaped with any stolen property.
Officials said the suspects fled the scene in an SUV.
Police have launched a massive manhunt to bring them in and said they were looking for three men around 20 years old.
The force said in a statement: “The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.”
Inspector Smith said: “I’m not quite sure what their motives are at this time and whether or not they were in the area looking at other houses prior.”
She also warned of a recent spike in violent home invasions in rich areas of the city and said the force would do “everything that we can” to find the suspects.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow declared “violence is not acceptable in our city” and urged anyone with information to come forward.
CCTV footage from the mansion has been handed over to the police.
