An activist and attorney, Chetam Nwala, has accused President Bola Tinubu of having hidden motives when he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State earlier this year.

Nwala made this claim on Tuesday during an interview on ‘The Morning Brief,’ a program on Channels Television that was monitored by DAILY POST.

He further asserted that the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State was entirely political and not aimed at stabilizing the situation in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that President Tinubu announced the state of emergency in March this year, which resulted in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly.

“As I have consistently stated, I will continue to emphasize that the declaration of emergency was purely political. It was not about stabilizing the state at all.

“It was a president attempting to safeguard his ambitions for 2027 within the context of Rivers State. And we have witnessed the outcome for the governor.

“The governor has been deceived. We have seen him return like a wounded and defeated lion. Upon his return, he has now joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to collaborate with the president.

“This situation arose solely because of the state of emergency. This was all due to the President's ambitions for 2027. He showed little concern for the declining Rivers economy; his priority was to ensure that the governor joined his party, which he successfully achieved,” he stated.
