Senate President Godswill Akpabio has clarified the reasons behind the defections of senators to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio stated that senators are joining the APC because they regard President Bola Tinubu as the father of Nigeria and all political parties.
The Senate President recently accompanied Cross River North Senator Agom Jarigbe and Senator Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North to a meeting with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Both lawmakers had switched their allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Akpabio remarked that the lawmakers made this decision out of a sense of patriotism and trust in Tinubu’s leadership.
He further noted that Tinubu’s economic policy reforms were a significant factor in the lawmakers’ decision to join the APC.
“They (Jarigbe and Samaila) are supporters of the President, and they see him as the father of the nation and all political parties,” he stated.
“Interestingly, they entered the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through different political platforms. However, due to the President’s policies that have positively impacted the economy, particularly in terms of revenue generation for the nation, they felt it was essential to join forces to build Nigeria. Their actions are purely patriotic,” he concluded.
