Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, could create the most formidable opposition ticket against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, according to Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to Atiku Abubakar.
He made this statement while appearing on the “Mic On Podcast.”
Olawewaju proposed that a collaboration between Atiku and Obi could establish a “co-presidency” scenario, enabling Nigerians to benefit from the insights of both leaders.
“I believe the best option would be to have both of them on that ticket and provide Nigerians with a sense of co-presidency,” he elaborated.
Olawewaju characterized Atiku as a determined politician who continually supports fellow candidates after experiencing primary losses.
“He lost the primaries to Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 and worked for him, ensuring Adamawa State was delivered in that election. That’s the essence of Atiku Abubakar,” Olarewaju stated.
He also highlighted the significance of youth engagement in politics, mentioning that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intends to allocate 35 to 50 percent of its positions to young individuals and women.
“Nigerians deserve a party that acknowledges the strength of the youth, including Gen Z and even Gen Alpha, and harnesses their potential,” he remarked.
Regarding the potential for a younger candidate to take the lead, Olarewaju noted that Atiku has shown a willingness to step aside for a younger candidate if he were to lose in the primaries, yet he remains the strongest opposition candidate.
“The most robust ticket the opposition can present is the alliance of Atiku and Obi,” he said, emphasizing that their aligned political ideologies make such a partnership practical and strategically advantageous.
