France MUST do more to stop Channel migrants, Starmer will demand in crunch summit with Macron as arrivals surge

SIR Keir Starmer is to demand France step up in the small boats crisis.

He will call for “more cooperation”; near when he meets at the G7 summit.

It comes as are now but dismally failing to stop journeys, with 1,500 migrants crossing the Channel in the past four days.

The PM said relations have improved with the French “in relation to the work we both need to do to stop these boat crossings”;.

He added: “I want to see more cooperation in northern France, and it’s an issue that I have raised and will raise again with President Macron.”;

The PM said he will also engage with other European leaders on tackling illegal at the summit in Alberta, Canada.

Sir Keir has struggled to stem migrant arrivals since arriving at No 10 last July.

He has vowed to , saving around £1billion a year.

Chancellor said last week £200million would go on clearing the asylum backlog.

A summer surge of illegal crossings is under way, with outbreaks of violence.
