ST MARY’S stadium was graced by the presence of Hollywood icon Sean Bean.

The Lord of the Rings and star swapped the cameras and movie studio for a trip to Southampton to watch his beloved Sheffield United in action.

He was spotted in the away end with fellow Blades’ fans for the mid-table clash.

However, much like many of his characters on screen, Bean saw his beloved Blades’ hopes of escaping with three points die.

Although on this occasion there was no script to leave the killing blow to the end of the match.

Rather, the winner was scored in the seventh minute with a deflected strike by Leo Scienza, leaving Bean with a stony-face look.

Reacting to his appearance on social media, fans referenced his previous acting roles including the often colourful language of his character Richard Sharpe in the historical drama series Sharpe.

One fan said: “He even looks like a villain on an away day.”

A second said: “He’s definitely just shouted B******.”

A third added: “Did he die?”

Another said: “One does not simply walk into St Mary’s.”

A fifth said: “ would have more fight if they stuck Richard Sharpe on the pitch.”

Bean is credited with at least 21 on screen deaths.

However, that is far from the record of 65 held by Danny Trejo and far away from the later Sir Christopher Lee’s tally of 60.

The Sheffield actor has supported the Blades since he was eight years old and has a tattoo on his shoulder that reads “100 per cent blade”.

He has been seen at United games in the past, but his jet-set Hollywood lifestyle often means he cannot spare the time to watch his team in person.

The result last night saw United fall to back-to-back 1-0 league defeats, and three in a row including the penalty shootout defeat to Mansfield in the third round.

They host Ipswich on Saturday hoping to get back to winnings ways as the relegation zone looms.
