However, the summer market remains active in Greece until Tuesday at 9.59pm BST and the Super League giants have reportedly launched a last-ditch attempt to sign a striker.

According to journalist Nahuel Ferreira , Olympiacos have made “formal contacts” to close a deal for the ex-Argentina international.

The same source claims Marinakis, 59, who also owns Premier League outfit and Rio Ave from Portugal, has offered the ex-Inter Milan star a two-year contract as talks continue.

However, there is no confirmation from Greece and the club doesn’t pay hefty wages anywhere near the £8.6million per year Icardi reportedly made at Galata.

This comes almost two years after the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star’s , who reportedly filed for divorce after a controversial and turbulent decade-long relationship.

Olympiacos are a centre-forward down after star player Ayoub El Kaabi suffered a horror tibia injury that could sideline him for the rest of the season.

El Kaabi, 33, has been the Greek giants’ top scorer these past three seasons and netted the winning goal in the 2024 final against Fiorentina that sealed the club’s first ever European honour.

Olympiacos will play in the this term but Icardi is unable to compete in any Uefa club competition until January as all clubs have registered their squads.

And the Piraeus outfit have with arguably their most successful manager in history Jose Luis Mendilibar, who won the Super League, Greek Cup, Super Cup and Conference League during his two years in charge.

Olympiacos, though, lost the title to rivals AEK Athens last season after a series of hapless displays in a trophyless campaigns and performances didn’t improve in the early stages of the 2026-27 campaign.

Mendilibar has been replaced by former Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil.
