A don, Professor Victor Nnam has urged the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Prof Simon Ortuanya to restore academic excellence in the nation’s ivory tower.

DAILY POST recalls that Ortuanya was last Sunday announced as the 16th Vice Chancellor of UNN after beating off competition from no less than 27 other professors.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday, Nnam, a renowned academic and former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Enugu State, expressed the hope that a new dawn beckons for UNN.

He said the appointment, which stems from “merit, competence, and dedication to academic excellence”, would no doubt translate to inclusive growth, restoration of UNN’s global academic standing and prioritizing of students and staff welfare.

His emergence is not only merited but also timely. He is a man of immense academic pedigree, leadership experience and vision,” Nnam said.

Nnam said the appointment of Ortuanya, the first indigene of the Nsukka to head UNN, was possible as Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State created an enabling environment for intellectual excellence.

“He is always supporting the aspirations of capable individuals from the state,” Nnam said, adding: “I believe Professor Ortuanya will take UNN to greater heights.

Professor Ortuanya, before his new role, had served in various academic and administrative capacities, including as Secretary to the Enugu State Government.
