Special Adviser on Public Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu will be ousted from office in 2027 by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition through the electoral process.
In response to reports regarding Peter Obi’s transition to the ADC, Shaibu clarified that the former presidential candidate has not defected, emphasizing that he has been involved in the coalition's development from the beginning.
He remarked that Obi’s public declaration merely confirms the coalition’s readiness to democratically replace the current leadership via the ballot.
In an interview with DAILY POST, Shaibu minimized discussions about a potential joint ticket between Atiku and Obi.
He emphasized that no candidate has been selected yet, noting that internal arrangements among coalition partners remain strategic and are not intended for public disclosure.
He stated: “People are forming a coalition to unseat a sitting president. The question of a joint ticket between Atiku and Obi is not relevant at this time.
“Whoever becomes our candidate will be our candidate. Currently, there is no designated candidate for the ADC.”
When asked what Nigerians should anticipate with Obi’s announcement, he responded: “What we are looking forward to is the fact that Tinubu will be removed from office through the ballot; it has nothing to do with the candidate.”
Regarding the measures in place to ensure that the Obidient and Atikulate factions collaborate effectively, he remarked: “The man just announced his affiliation today, do you understand? He didn’t actually defect; he simply made it public that he is part of the ADC.
“He has been a part of the coalition, so any structures established for the Obidient and Atiku teams to cooperate are our internal arrangements.
“These strategies are not for public knowledge; they are our own internal strategies and not meant for media exposure. No.”
