The Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, SAN, has revealed the purpose of his visit to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday.
According to DAILY POST, Turaki, accompanied by several executive members of his faction of the National Working Committee (NWC), along with former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu and former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) at precisely 11:27 am on Saturday.
He immediately entered into a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the meeting, which lasted around 40 minutes, Turaki stated that the visit was intended to seek Obasanjo’s support and guidance in successfully leading the party and displacing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
He emphasized that while the challenge of removing the APC government in 2027 due to their incompetence and poor management may not be straightforward, the candid discussion with the former President has further motivated them, reinforcing that their mission is indeed achievable.
The former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan referred to Obasanjo as a highly experienced elder statesman and former President during the PDP administration, whose legacy of fostering strong institutions has significantly contributed to the democratic development of the country.
He remarked, “As the newly elected PDP leadership during our recent congress in Ibadan, we came to present ourselves to our esteemed elder, the former President of the PDP administration, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
“We came to express our gratitude to the former President for his vision and contributions to enhancing our democracy and good governance during his tenure. We appreciate his role in establishing strong institutions that the nation continues to benefit from today.
“We have also come to seek inspiration from the former President as a mentor; we are here to gain guidance, advice, and critical support because if we are to succeed in the significant responsibilities entrusted to us, we must turn to individuals like Chief Obasanjo, who possess the necessary experience.
“We now recognize more than ever that while the task ahead may be daunting, the inspiration and guidance we received from Baba today have equipped us to strive tirelessly and reclaim the PDP's position of power by 2027.”
Turaki asserted that the PDP is prepared for the 2027 elections, highlighting that their readiness will be evident when the party secures victory in the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
“Once we win these two states, it will be clear to everyone that the PDP is on the move again. The PDP is rising to oust the APC government, which has been marked by incompetence and mismanagement, come 2027,” he added.
In separate comments, the party’s National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, and BOT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, urged party members to remain united and initiate widespread mobilization efforts to restore the party to power, continuing its legacy of excellent governance and generous welfare for the people.
