The Chairman of the Fusion and Engagement Committee of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Cross River State, Dr MacFarlane Ejah, has accused members from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, bloc within the coalition of importing crisis into the party.

Ejah, who spoke on behalf of the ADC State Chairman, Dr John Ogar, at a news conference in Calabar, said recent tensions within the party were traceable to individuals linked to the PDP bloc in the coalition arrangement.

The briefing followed a clash between supporters of former governor Senator Liyel Imoke and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani, and the camp loyal to Ogar over a planned party meeting in the state.

Ejah alleged that some individuals seeking to take control of the party had neither resigned from the PDP nor formally registered as members of the ADC at their respective wards.

He warned that the party would not tolerate what he described as attempts to impose leadership or import the culture of impunity into the ADC.

β€œWe reject impunity and imposition. We will not tolerate actions or attitudes that undermine the will of the people,” he said.

According to him, all other political blocs that joined the coalition had worked harmoniously with the party leadership, except the PDP group, which he accused of creating friction.

Ejah also faulted an attempt by the group to inaugurate a Membership Mobilisation, Registration and Revalidation, MMR, committee across the 18 local government areas of the state.

He said the move was not sanctioned by the state leadership of the party and described the committee as unknown to the ADC structure in Cross River.

β€œThe planned inauguration of the MMR committee by a group unknown to the state leadership is an affront to the constitutional structure of the party,” he said, adding that the ADC already had an ongoing membership drive that had attracted thousands of new members.

Ejah insisted that the ADC in Cross River was not polarised but maintained that the party would resist any attempt by non-members to organise meetings or activities in its name.

He added that while the party abhors violence, it would not stand by while individuals who were not recognised members attempt to operate under its banner.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Usani Usani who is the national vice chairman of ADC, said the Mobilisation, Registration and Revalidation, MMR, committee was established to strengthen ADC in the state.

He assured that they will carry all interests alongside the national programme of the party.
