Local government executives and ad-hoc delegates have emerged from the congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC, held across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State on Saturday.
The Secretary of the Congress Committee, Mr Smart Iheazor, made this known while addressing journalists in Akure on Sunday.
He described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and well organised.
Iheazor explained that members of the committee monitored the elections in all 18 council areas and expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the congress.
He noted that delegates elected during the ward congress held on Wednesday participated in electing the local government executives.
According to him, the congress was conducted simultaneously across the state’s local government areas, with 27 positions contested in each council.
He further disclosed that five additional delegates elected during the congress would participate in the party’s state executive election scheduled for March 3.
He added that the ad-hoc national delegates chosen at the local government level would attend the party’s national convention slated for March 27 and 28 in Abuja, where national officers are expected to be elected.
“We went round the local governments to monitor and observe the election, and the election went very smoothly.
“The election was very transparent and it was also very peaceful.
“The feedback we received from various local governments shows that there was no incident of violence. It was peaceful, and we are happy for Ondo State,” he said.
Iheazor expressed confidence that the newly elected local government executives would effectively manage the party’s affairs at the grassroots level.
He also revealed that an appeal committee would sit to receive petitions arising from the congress.
He commended stakeholders across the state for creating a conducive environment that ensured the smooth conduct of the exercise.
