The Ogun State government has reaffirmed its dedication to creating and maintaining an environment that fosters both industrial productivity and public safety.
Dr. Ola Oresanya, the Commissioner for Environment, made this statement while delivering a keynote address at a two-day annual workshop for Health, Safety, and Environment Officers of industrial facilities in Ogun State.
The workshop, organized by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), was themed “Synergy, Standards, and Solutions: Forging A New Era in Industrial Waste Management in Ogun State” and took place on Thursday.
Represented by Mr. Akinbode Oresanya, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Ministry of Environment, he mentioned that the workshop aligns with the Ministry's initiatives, which include upgrading the environmental monitoring system across industrial clusters, enhancing inspection protocols and regulatory enforcement, reviewing hazardous waste management guidelines to meet international standards, and strengthening collaboration with industrial associations as well as environmental service providers.
He urged participants to seize the opportunity to collaborate and develop new practical solutions in partnership with the State Government, so they can together usher in a new era of industrial waste management that would benefit the environment, the economy, and the residents of the State.
In his opening remarks, Abayomi Hunye, Special Adviser and Managing Director of Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), stated that the workshop aimed to equip participants with the latest global practices in industrial waste management.
Hunye emphasized that Ogun State, which boasts the highest number of industries, cannot afford to become complacent, reaffirming the State government's commitment to creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable ecosystem, as the era of lax industrial waste practices and management has come to an end.
