The Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed its condolences to the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, following the tragic death of seven members from the Gombe State Council in a horrific road accident.

In a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Usman Chiji, on behalf of the Chairman, Comrade Abu Nmodu referred to the incident as “devastating and profoundly sorrowful.”

He stated, “The untimely loss of these journalists has deprived the Union and the Nigerian media sector of committed professionals who significantly contributed to nation-building through their work.”

“This loss is particularly heartbreaking considering the young ages of the deceased and their active involvement in NUJ activities, representing a substantial setback for the Union,” he added.

“The Council encourages the National President to find comfort in the knowledge that the departed colleagues served with dedication and fulfilled their responsibilities in their respective workplaces.”

The statement further urged the National President not to be disheartened by this unfortunate event, but rather to accept it as the will of Almighty God.

The NUJ Niger State Council expressed its solidarity in this time of grief with the National President, the NUJ Gombe State Council, as well as the government and citizens of Gombe State.

The Council then prayed that Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased, grants them Aljannatul Firdaus, and provides their families and loved ones with the strength to cope with these irreparable losses.

It is important to note that approximately eleven journalists from the NTA Gombe Chapel were involved in a fatal road accident last weekend while returning from a wedding ceremony, resulting in the deaths of seven journalists, while four others sustained various degrees of injuries.
