Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has said that the defeat to Bayelsa United won’t derail his team’s chances of winning a second Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, title.
The Port Harcourt club fell 1-0 to their hosts in the South-South derby at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, on Sunday.
Captain Temple Emekayi turned the ball into his own net in the 12th minute.
Rivers United, who still have three outstanding fixtures, dropped to second position on the table following the defeat.
Eight-time champions Rangers moved to the summit after a comfortable 2-0 home win against Nasarawa United.
Finidi insisted that his side will continue to fight to achieve their objective for the season.
“If losing to Bayelsa United will give us the league title, I’ll accept it,” Finidi said after the game.
“We know the purpose of our campaign this season is to win the league. It’s quite unfortunate that we lost today.”
