A former president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and energy expert, Peter Esele, has stated that the Dangote Refinery is facing threats.
During an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a program on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, Esele mentioned that Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Dangote Group, believes that regulators are undermining his business.
The former TUC president was commenting on the conflict between Dangote and Farouk Ahmed, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
“Dangote has made a series of allegations against NMDPRA. What he questions is the issuance of multiple licenses,” he said.
“The Dangote refinery is under threat, and Dangote feels that his business is being compromised by the regulators.”
“On one hand, there are allegations from Dangote against the MD of NMDPRA, which I believe we all need to examine closely, and it is something we should address.”
“Public officials must be held accountable. We should be aware of how they conduct their lives and understand their sources of income. Once you are a public servant, it is essential that you operate within defined parameters, and your earnings should be transparent.”
“This will strengthen the system and encourage our public officials to be more accountable. As for the conflict between Dangote and the NMDPRA head, I don’t see it as a major concern.”
“It is something we expect our security agencies and organizations like the ICPC to investigate Dangote’s allegations and determine their validity,” he concluded.
