A TEENAGE tourist was allegedly raped at the ruins of Pompeii after a man posed as a tour guide and lured him to a secluded area.

The suspect, a caretaker at the ancient archaeological park, is accused of leading the boy to one of the historic homes before launching his assault.

He is said to have approached the student, making him believe he was a guide and using his park uniform to back up his lie.

The caretaker offered to show the boy one of the domus – houses – normally closed to the public.

Once inside, he allegedly grabbed, groped and kissed the victim despite being given a firm refusal.

After the boy attempted to fight him off, the assault allegedly turned violent.

He accused the caretaker of forcing him to undergo repeated sexual acts.

The victim immediately filed a complaint with the Carabinieri – the Italian – after the incident, giving a clear and detailed account.

An investigation was launched by cops stationed near the excavations.

They identified the alleged perpetrator when the victim identified him from the park’s surveillance footage.

He was quickly apprehended and taken to Vallo della Luciana .

A detention order was approved due to the gravity of the alleged , perceived danger of the suspect and risk of repeated offences.

Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Pompeii park, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim of the serious incident of sexual violence that, according to the investigation, occurred at the site.

“Beyond the criminal proceedings, there will also be disciplinary consequences once all necessary internal investigations have been completed.

“This is a very serious and shocking incident, which, moreover, occurred in a place that should be a stronghold of humanity and culture.

“We will evaluate whether to join the civil action in any eventual trial.”

It comes after by a tourism worker in Greece.

The young women told local they met the man while enjoying a holiday in Zante, off the western coast of mainland .

Both women allege they were later raped by the same man, according to local media outlet Ethnos .

Upon hearing the horror allegations, the mother of one of the women immediately drove from the to Greece.

She tracked down the suspect to his place of work and attacked him, according to local media.

Cops were called to the scene and the mother and suspect were both taken to the police station.

The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of rape with a case filed against him.
