The Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has appointed the spokesperson of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission as the chairman of the state's electricity regulatory commission.

This decision follows Governor Yahaya's establishment of the Gombe Electricity and Digital Economy Commissions and the selection of their respective chairmen.

The formation of the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) and the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GIDTEC) aims to enhance regulation, foster innovation, and expedite economic transformation in the state.

The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, after the governor gave his assent to the legislation that established the two commissions, thereby granting them full legal authority to begin operations.

Governor Yahaya also approved the appointment of Dr. Usman Abba Arabi, the General Manager of the Public Affairs Department at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), as the chairman of GOSERC.

Dr. Al-Amin Umar Barambu has been appointed as the Chairman of GIDTEC.

The governor emphasized that the appointees possess the necessary experience and expertise to effectively fulfill the mandates of the newly established commissions.

He elaborated that the establishment of GOSERC aligns with his administration’s reform agenda for the power sector, particularly in leveraging opportunities under the Electricity Act to bolster regulation, enhance service delivery, attract private sector investment, and expand access to reliable electricity throughout Gombe State.

Similarly, the creation of GIDTEC highlights the government’s commitment to developing a technology-driven and digitally competitive economy, focusing on ICT development, digital innovation, skills acquisition, e-governance, and youth employment.
