The Legislative Arm of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has declared that the election held on Thursday to swear in new executive members of the association was unlawful and conducted by impostors.
The student body stated that the election, allegedly carried out by individuals attempting to mislead the association, was conducted without the supervision, approval, or involvement of the duly appointed Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC), who was legally designated by the Legislative Arm.
According to the student body, this constitutes a fundamental breach that invalidates the election process.
In a statement signed by the Senate President, Omoleye Ayomide, and Clerk, Akinsola Prisca, on Friday, they noted that the “so-called elected president and several other candidates involved in the unlawful process are already graduates and therefore ineligible to contest under NAOSS regulations.”
The statement reads, “The Legislative Arm of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) hereby addresses the unlawful activities recently conducted by individuals attempting to mislead the association.
“An illegal election was held on Thursday without the supervision, approval, or involvement of the duly appointed Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC), which was legally designated by the Legislative Arm. This fundamental breach alone invalidates the entire process.
“Furthermore, individuals who falsely posed as Senators were used to create a facade of legitimacy. The so-called elected president and several other candidates involved in this illegal process are already graduates, making them ineligible to contest under NAOSS regulations.
“Most concerning is the fact that the mace, which was previously reported missing by the Legislative Arm, was discovered in the possession of these individuals. Any assembly where this missing mace is used is unconstitutional and therefore illegal. The Legislative Arm hereby declares that the aforementioned election is null, void, and without effect. It possesses no legitimacy, recognition, or authority within NAOSS.”
They commended the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for their swift intervention in halting the process, stating that their calm engagement prevented disorder and protected the integrity of NAOSS.
“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in upholding the constitution of our esteemed association. Their prompt intervention in stopping an unlawful gathering/election on Thursday, December 11th, at the NLC Secretariat in Leme, Abeokuta, exemplifies the proactive nature of the police command in Ogun State.
“The maturity and due process demonstrated by the officers on the ground, along with their timely action, safeguarded genuine student leaders from manipulation and reaffirmed our trust in the police as a reliable institution committed to peace and the rule of law.”
However, the association called for ongoing vigilance and continuous collaboration with the police command to prevent future disruptions or chaos in upcoming elections scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, 2025.
The Legislative Arm added that the elections will be supervised by the legally established Convention Planning Committee and reiterated its commitment to preserving the integrity of NAOSS and upholding the constitution that governs them.
