The Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) is aiming to vaccinate 3,186,521 children against measles and rubella throughout the state.
This announcement was made by the state Immunization Officer, Shehu Ibrahim, during a media dialogue and awareness campaign for the upcoming integrated vaccination initiative, which is set to run from October 6 to October 15, 2025.
He mentioned that the integrated exercise aims to reach 48-49% of the population, specifically targeting children aged between 9 months and 14 years.
“The initiative will focus on children from 9 months to 14 years for measles and rubella, NOPV for those aged 0 to 59 months, HPV for ages 9 to 14, and routine immunization (RI) for infants from 0 to 23 months,” he explained.
According to Shehu, the program will take place from October 6 to 15 across all 288 wards in the 27 local government areas of the state.
The SIO stated that the exercise will be carried out at all primary and secondary health facilities and public buildings throughout the 288 wards in the state.
He cautioned parents against noncompliance and urged them to ensure their children are taken to the immunization centers.
The SIO called for full cooperation to ensure the success of the program.
Previously, the State Coordinator of NPHCDA, Dr. Kabiru Mustapha, mentioned that the Federal Government aims to vaccinate 100 million children in this exercise to lower morbidity and mortality rates in the country.
Data shows that Nigeria reported a total of 94,304 confirmed measles cases with 714 deaths from 2019 to 2024.
In 2025, Nigeria recorded 4,637 measles cases with 1,539 confirmed cases.
