Staff at a busy Shields Road pub were called into action after a seriously injured member of the public went in asking for help after being ‘attacked’ in the street. Police were scrambled to Shields Road in at 7.25pm on Tuesday following reports of an assault in the Byker area of the city.

Emergency services, discovered a man in his 20s at the scene and he was found to have sustained serious injuries.
An air ambulance also landed in a car park nearby as part of a huge emergency response, reports Chronicle Live .
The outlet says the man is understood to have asked for medical help at The Raby pub before he was treated by paramedics.
He was raced to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment but despite the best efforts of staff, he died a short time later.
Northumbria Police said his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
The force has now launched a murder investigation into the man’s death and have arrested three people.
Two men, aged 24 and 22, and a boy, 16, have been arrested on suspicion of murder – all three remain in police custody.
A huge cordon was put in place with a section of Shields Road still closed to traffic earlier on Wednesday to allow investigative work to take place.
A local resident said they had spotted officers on Wednesday morning, saying it was “absolutely awful news“.
They said: “Life had barely started for him. I saw the air ambulance landing at Home Bargains last night and hoped they were going to be okay.”
Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Atherton, from the force’s Major Investigations Team, said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life.
“We will offer them all of the support we can and would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
“We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances around the man’s death and arrested three people on suspicion of murder.
“We would like to reassure those in the local community that our officers remain in the area to carry out a wide range of inquiries to ascertain exactly what happened.”
Nick Hartley, councillor for Newcastle City Council, posted a statement on social media to say he and his colleagues had been in touch with police.
He said: “Our thoughts right now are with everyone affected and we will continue to work with the police, community safety officers, residents, local businesses and the council to build safety in our communities.
“We will say more on that in the coming weeks.”
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to come forward to the police.
