Macy Gray has finally spoken out after her dramatic exit from the set of The Masked Singer UK, where she took a harsh jab at Example.

The I Try hitmaker has now shed light on her furious response to being voted off by the panel.

In a recent interview, Macy was asked if she is a competitive person.

She responded by criticizing Stay Awake singer Example, whose real name is Elliot John Gleave, stating he “can’t sing.”

Macy shared: “Yes, I’m up there singing my heart out, and some guy comes around and they picked him, and he couldn’t even sing.”

“Yes, what am I doing here?”

Macy admitted that when she learned Bear had been saved over her, she was “deeply offended.”

She took a final jab at the competition, declaring it was “not fun.”

“I’ve done three of them now, the Australian and the US versions.”

When asked if she enjoyed participating in the show, she bluntly replied: “No, they just pay really well. It’s hard to say no.”

Fans were shocked when Macy labeled Example a poor singer.

A source revealed that because Macy reached the final of the US version as Sea Queen in 2023, she was “totally blindsided” to be one of the first to leave the latest UK series.

Viewers witnessed her storm off stage after the host revealed she had been voted out—but she was seen returning to the stage shortly after.

In reality, producers had to spend nearly an hour persuading her to return to the stage—none of which was shown on screen.

A whistleblower stated: “This has never happened on The Masked Singer before.”

“When Macy stormed off stage, everyone was frozen in shock. As soon as she reached backstage, crew members removed her mask to talk her down.

“Macy was almost in shock initially and was genuinely upset to be eliminated so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version—where she performed brilliantly—so she was completely blindsided.

“It was the shock of it all for her, combined with the disappointment, and in that moment, she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted to leave.

“For a professional performer to reach that point shows how deeply she felt. Obviously, The Masked Singer isn’t a singing competition and is just a bit of fun, so being voted off was no reflection of her talent, but no one could believe a global superstar like Macy lost control like this.

“It took a long time for everyone backstage to talk her around, and poor Joel was on stage essentially doing a stand-up routine to keep the situation under control.

“Eventually, they managed to convince Macy to return to the stage and be properly unmasked and sing one last time.

“But it was completely chaotic.”
