And nearly eight years later, Hernandez has decided to commemorate that famous night with a statue that depicts himself as a gorilla.
The huge sculpture is covered in red and blue – the colours of the national team.
The gorilla is wearing a blue France kit with ‘s name and his number 21 on the back.
The head, arms and legs are all painted red and a trophy replica has been placed in his hands.
Hernandez posted a video of the statue on Instagram with the caption: “New friend just moved in,” followed by gorilla and trophy emojis.
The statue was placed in his drive way with a circular base at the bottom to create a mini-roundabout.
The full clip showed the statue being delivered to Hernandez’s house by a tow truck.
Workers can then be seen placing the trophy in the gorilla’s hands before propping him upright and drilling him into the ground.

Fans were both impressed and baffled by the striking design and choice of statue as one wrote on X: “This is incredible.”
Another said: “When you really have money to throw away,” followed by a laughing emoji.
A third stunned fan added: “He’s so crazy thank you [Didier] Deschamps for making him a world champion.”
Others praised Hernandez for his “bold” statue design.
And one said the defender had “reminded everyone that he’s a world champion in a big way”.
Hernandez has picked up 40 caps for the France team and also won the in 2021.
And he was part of the France side that reached the 2022 World Cup final, losing on penalties to Argentina.
He started his career with Atletico Madrid before moving to in 2019, playing 107 times in and winning the in 2020.
Hernandez then joined PSG in 2023 and has since featured 91 times. Last season he won the Champions League for a second time under .
