It was a dismal start for Hamilton, who holds honorary Brazilian citizenship, as he dropped an astonishing five places, falling to 18th after colliding with another driver.
Later in that lap, he collided with Franco Colapinto on the main straight, damaging his front wing.
Gabriel Bortoleto, who hails from Sao Paulo, crashed again after his sprint race incident, as he was squeezed by another car and had no choice but to spin into the wall.
A safety car was deployed on lap two while Hamilton pitted for a new front wing, as Bortoleto’s car was still being cleared from the track.
Hamilton's situation was deteriorating, and he expressed his frustration on the team radio before his second pit stop, stating: “Mate, I’m going to crash out here. I’ll keep trying. The car is incredibly unstable.”
He was struggling in 17th place, and on lap 29, he received a five-second time penalty for causing the initial collision with Colapinto.
The Brit was left furious with the stewards after receiving yet another time penalty, exclaiming on his team radio: “These guys are a joke. A complete joke.”
His challenging day concluded on lap 40 as he retired in the Ferrari garage in Brazil, feeling defeated in a country that has always held a special place in his heart.
Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris capped off an exceptional weekend for his championship aspirations with yet another victory.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured second place for Mercedes, while Max Verstappen finished third for Red Bull.
This performance allowed Norris to extend his lead at the top of the championship with just three races remaining.
F1 will next head to Las Vegas later this month, before concluding the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
