The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State has slammed the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for accusing President Bola Tinubu of using the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political gain.

Describing the allegations as “baseless, reckless and in poor taste”;, the APC said the President’s actions, attending memorials and delivering tributes, were a reflection of genuine loyalty and responsible national leadership.

In a statement issued on Saturday, APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, criticized the ADC for what he termed a “deeply disrespectful”; response to Tinubu’s gestures, saying the late Buhari deserves to be remembered with dignity, not used as a tool for political attacks.

“It is unfortunate that the ADC, in its desperate search for relevance, has chosen to trivialize a period of national mourning just to generate media attention,”; Oladejo said.

“President Tinubu’s relationship with President Buhari was grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic ideals, and a commitment to national development. His participation in memorial events and heartfelt tributes reflect statesmanship, not opportunism.”;

Oladejo added that the ADC’s attempt to politicize a solemn national moment reveals how disconnected the party is from the prevailing mood across the country. He accused the party of exploiting grief to provoke unnecessary division.

“Rather than show empathy, the ADC has resorted to cheap political theatrics. This is not only hypocritical but also dishonest, especially coming from a party with little electoral significance,”; he stated.

The APC also called on the ADC to offer an unreserved apology to the family of the late President, the Nigerian public, and the Presidency, emphasizing that national unity must take precedence over partisan squabbles.

“At a time when what the country needs most is unity, not divisiveness, we urge Nigerians to ignore such irresponsible commentary.

“We will not condone any further acts of disrespect toward the memory of a national icon. President Tinubu remains focused on governance, security, economic recovery, and preserving the legacies of those who served this country with honour,”; the statement read.
